COIMBATORE: Efforts are on to bring more German business delegations to Coimbatore, Roland Herrmann, the Consul General of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Chennai, said here on Thursday.
Launching Fabtec India 2009, an exhibition to be organised here from 21th - 25th jan 09 by Codissia the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association and Schall, he said that bilateral trade between India and Germany reached 10 billion euro in 2006 and the target was to double it in another five years. “We hope to see more development in industrial investment both ways,” he said. “We are now working on to increase industrial investment mutually,” he said.
Infrastructure
Germany had excellent infrastructure and trained skilled workers. So, industries here that were considering overseas investment should consider Germany as a destination, he said. While there were several globally known brands in Germany, the backbone of the German economy were the small and medium-scale enterprises, he said.
The District Collector, Neeraj Mittal, said Coimbatore had a large number of units that were into exports and these companies should keep pace with the latest technologies to remain competitive. “We should do whatever we can to keep abreast of the latest technologies and materials,” he said. The competence of the entire supply chain was important.
Exhibitions
The vice-president of COINTEC, G.D. Rajkumar, said CODISSIA would organise here three exhibitions in association with P.E. Schall GmbH and Co of Germany. These would be technical exhibitions and the first one was on sheet metal fabrication (Fabtech).
The Director of Fabtech India 2008, V. Sundarrajulu, said the exhibition would have about 300 domestic and international participants.
The exhibition on sheet metal fabrication, welding, coats and paints technology, would have nearly two lakh sq ft of display area.
The event would bring more business opportunities to the small and tiny units here and was supported by the Indian Welding Society. The CODISSIA President, C. Muthusami, welcomed the gathering.
